French MP: My Visit Aims at Strengthening Tehran-Paris Ties

TEHRAN France hopes for closer political and economic ties with Iran, a French MP currently heading a delegation to Tehran told AFP on Monday. "Although certain French companies discuss Iran's image and look upon its market with interest but also distrust, my visit aims at taking a positive step" toward strengthening ties, French MP Andre Santini said. "Iran has shown real interest in opening its doors to France," Santini said, expressing France's desire to be "Well-placed in Iran once the U.S. embargo is lifted." Santini also said a visit by Iranian President Mohammad Khatami to Paris would be "desirable." Khatami was due to visit France earlier this year but the trip fell apart amid a problem over whether alcohol was to be served at the state dinner for President Khatami. But French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine in July said that the invitation was still valid.
